The older I am, the more I love and appreciate slow fashion. Don’t get me wrong, I still like, from time to time, to go on a shopping spree and spend my money in Zara and similar stores. I mean, why not? Their clothes is nice, modern, trendy, and affordable. You can copy a runaway look in a second.
But, fashion, a $2.5 trillion sector, is among most polluting industries on Earth. Fast fashion’s negative impact includes the use of cheap, toxic textile dyes – the fashion industry currently makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions which is more than international flights and maritime shipping and produces 21 billion tons of waste each year.
The other disadvantages of fast fashion include – not paying fair living wages to workers, poor working conditions, child labor, environmental destruction from hazardous chemicals, plastic-derived materials, and increasing amounts of water pollution and textile waste.
But, fashion is also personal. It allows you to chose how you wish to present yourself to the world, and allows you to realize what you are comfortable with and what you like about yourself and your personal style. There is nothing wrong with dressing in order to feel flattering, but never hide your true self.

What is the solution? While you don’t need to completely forget fast fashion because, let’s be real, who has that money to dress in Chanel and shop in vintage stores all the time, it is smart to shift your focus on more sustainable fashion ways and gradually fill your wardrobe with more timeless pieces and less trendy, cheap and bad quality ones.
Recycling and re-using vintage clothing means you are not only doing your bit to help the Earth by discouraging the production of more throw-away fashion, but you are also getting a much better quality, unique and individual product at a better price.
Consumers are waking up to the fact that vintage clothes can be adaptable to the latest trends, and that they are also timeless classics that can become a staple of any wardrobe. This is one of the main reasons that vintage has become so popular.
What do I think about vintage? When I was younger I didn’t like it. It’s understandable because there are not many young girls who like and appreciate vintage fashion. They love everything new and trendy and that is perfectly fine.
But, the older you get, the more you appreciate fine pieces, luxury materials and timeless designs. And that’s the moment when you start buying vintage and collect all those beautiful pieces that will last you a lifetime. Pieces that you consider art and not only fashion or clothing.
Browsing my Instagram one lazy afternoon I stumbled across a profile I fell in love with – Sororité Vintage. You know that moment when someone’s feed just attracts you and you can’t stop looking at it and liking their photos? Well, that’s how I felt about this brend when I first discovered them.

Sororité Vintage is a luxury online store that sells carefully selected high quality vintage pieces and let me tell you, they look amazing! The brand was founded by a group of sisters and their mother as a result of their love for luxury and fashion. And they are really doing a great job.
You are not existing if you are not on the internet, right? And Sororité Vintage is doing an amazing job when it comes to social media presence. What sets them apart from other similar companies (besides their dreamy pieces) is the fact that their Instagram feed is perfectly artistic.
Not only do they have wonderful engagement with their followers but their consumer demand is so incredibly high that they are open only for 12 hours every week. That means that their official online shop is open every friday, from noon to midnight.
After that, their online shop shuts and is password protected and they and their team post daily snaps on Instagram. They engage with their audience, post polls, questions and sneak-peaks of their pieces and it’s not hard to fall in love with something that will soon be available in their shop.
But, you need to act fast because they have only one piece and that perfect. You know why? Because not only will your piece be unique but you are also supporting sustainable brand. By buying and wearing vintage (or pre-loved) fashion, you are reducing carbon footprint, saving Earth and you are totally eco friendly fashion lover. How cool is that?
When you buy one of their pieces, they’ll ship it in a 100% eco friendly packaging which include both recycled and biodegradable materials. Also, when you buy vintage, for example from a brand like Sororité Vintage, you are not only showing to everyone around you that you know your fashion and have an amazing style, but you are also taking a stand against the fast fashion industry that will ruin our planet.
